(Towson, October 7, 2008) Baltimore County will begin work on a major water project on Belair Road next week as utility crews begin laying 8,850 feet of 24-inch diameter pipe between White Marsh Boulevard (Route 43) and Ebenezer Road. The new line will run parallel to an existing 12-inch main, say County engineers, and will increase line capacity, improve water pressure and help insure adequate fire protection for the area.
In the coming months, construction of the 24-inch transmission main on Belair Road is scheduled for nights (Sunday through Thursday) in order to minimize traffic congestion on the busy north-south corridor. Southbound traffic may at times be reduced to one lane. During the day, crews will clean and line the existing 12-inch pipe.
Work is scheduled to take more than a year to complete and should be finished before the end of 2009 or early 2010 – depending on the weather. Both the construction and line rehabilitation will cost $5.5 million, say engineers.
