Senator Klausmeier Receives Certificate of Appreciation
from
Korean War Veterans Association
(Baltimore) Monday, May 29, Senator Katherine Klausmeier (D-Baltimore County) received a certificate of appreciation from the Maryland Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association, Inc. at a Memorial Day Ceremony held at the Maryland Korean War Veterans Memorial. Senator Klausmeier has been a leading advocate in the Maryland General Assembly for those who fought defending South Korea from Communist forces in what has lamentably come to be known as "The Forgotten War." This year Senator Klausmeier sponsored a Senate Joint Resolution that called on the United States Congress to finally grant the national Korean War Veterans Association a charter, as it is the only major war veterans association not recognized in that manner. The resolution passed the General Assembly and has been sent to Maryland’s delegation in Washington. She also sponsored the bill that designated Maryland Route 43 as the "Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway", and is spearheading an effort to build new and improved signs on the highway by coalescing support from government and private sources.
"I am honored that they have recognized my efforts on their behalf," said Senator Klausmeier, "It breaks my heart to think that anyone would forget the sacrifices made by these brave souls who fought for our freedom on the other side of the world over fifty years ago."
"Some people call the Korean War ‘The Forgotten War’, but Kathy hasn’t forgotten," said Ray Glock, Korean War representative on the Maryland Veterans Commission and Captain of the Honor Guard for the Maryland Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association, "She’s been there fighting for our place at the table, and we truly appreciate all she has done."

Friday, June 30, Senator Kathy Klausmeier joined members of the Maryland Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association (KWVA) in Annapolis to commemorate the passage of Senate Joint Resolution 8 by the Maryland General Assembly during the 2006 Session. This resolution urges the United States Congress to grant the KWVA a federal charter that would allow the organization to better serve and represent its members and veterans in general. Joining Sen. Klausmeier and the KWVA on the State House steps is Maryland Secretary of Veterans Affairs George Owings.
