Maryland’s Solar Energy Grant Program

In 2004, I co-sponsored the legislation that created Maryland’s Solar Energy Grant Program. This program provides funds to Marylanders for a portion of the costs to install certain qualifying solar energy systems. The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) is accepting applications and issuing grants now to homeowners and businesses alike.

The MEA’s Web site also has a wealth of information about what Maryland is doing to maximize energy efficiency and what steps consumers can take to save money and help the environment through energy conservation.

This year, the MEA is also starting the EmPOWER Maryland Clean Energy Schools Program. This program will educate Maryland schoolchildren about the many benefits of clean energy by partnering with BP America to install clean energy projects at one school in each of Maryland’s counties. As a strong supporter of clean energy, I have urged Superintendent Hairston to utilize one of the schools in the 8th Legislative District for this program.
