Eighth District Delegation Rewards Local Kids

(Parkville) – On Tuesday, May 29 the General Assembly Delegation from the 8th Legislative District sponsored a pizza party at Parkville High School to reward local children who went seven days without watching television. Over one hundred and seventy-five children participated in the Annual Seven Day TV Free Challenge and attended the party with their parents where they were presented with citations signed by Senator Kathy Klausmeier and Delegates Joseph Boteler, Eric Bromwell, and Todd Schuler.

"I am glad that the students enjoyed finding things to do other than watch TV," said Senator Klausmeier, "As the students and their parents checked in, the Delegates and I got to hear about all the fun things that they did that week."

"This is every bit as much a challenge for the parents as it is for the kids, but I know they truly enjoy spending time doing such activities as playing baseball or softball, riding their bikes or reading together as a family," added Delegate Boteler.

"I am happy that this has become a yearly tradition. It is fun seeing the brothers and sisters of those who had previously participated come to the party, and I hope that we see some of the same faces again next year," said Delegate Bromwell.

"I hope that this is just the beginning for the kids and their families," Delegate Schuler added, "I believe that when families do an activity together it is a great way to form a close bond that you do not get by sitting in front of the TV."

Volunteers from the legislators’ offices and the Woman’s Club of Perry Hall pitched in to dish out the pizza, cake and beverages and the students had the opportunity to have their picture taken with the Senator and the Delegates.
